Blow-off Valve -- a pressure relief valve used in the air intake piping of turbocharged engines between the turbocharger and the throttle body. When a turbocharged engine is generating full boost and the thottle is quickly released (such as when the driver shifts gears), the thottle is closed, and a slug of high pressure air will slam into the throttle plate causing a hihg pressure spike. This can damage the throttle body or other parts, or can cause parts to disconnect. The blow-off valve provides a path for the excess pressure to be released.
